POSITION: DIESEL MECHANIC X 1
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill a position of Diesel Mechanic, to be based at Diepspruit Coal Mine near Kriel, Mpumalanga.

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and reliable Diesel Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will work on a variety of heavy-duty trucks, machinery, and other diesel-powered equipment, diagnosing mechanical issues, performing repairs, and carrying out routine maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diesel Engine Maintenance and Repair:
    • Perform diagnostic tests on diesel engines to identify issues and determine the necessary repairs or maintenance.
    • Conduct repairs and replacements of engine parts, such as injectors, pumps, turbos, and radiators.
    • Inspect and repair transmission systems, fuel systems, exhaust systems, and electrical components in diesel vehicles and machinery.
  • Preventive Maintenance:
    • Conduct regular maintenance tasks, including oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, and tire inspections, to ensure vehicles and equipment are in optimal working condition.
    • Perform routine system diagnostics and make adjustments to keep vehicles running efficiently.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Diagnose mechanical issues using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment, pinpointing problems with engines, electrical systems, brakes, suspension, and other vehicle components.
    • Work with the maintenance team to develop effective solutions and carry out repairs promptly.
  • Parts and Equipment Management:
    • Maintain an inventory of necessary parts and tools for repairs and maintenance.
    • Order and replace damaged or worn-out parts to ensure vehicle and equipment reliability.
    • Keep track of maintenance records and service history for each piece of equipment.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow safety protocols and procedures while working with diesel engines, machinery, and hazardous materials.
    • Ensure that all work performed meets relevant safety standards, industry regulations, and manufacturer specifications.
    • Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety guidelines.
  • Collaboration and Reporting:
    • Work closely with the fleet management team and other mechanics to coordinate maintenance schedules and resolve mechanical issues.
    • Provide feedback to supervisors on vehicle or equipment conditions and report any issues that may require further attention.

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
• Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
• Diesel Mech Trade Certificate MQA (CTC)
Valid First aide Certificate (Essential, if not available, must obtain at on-boarding)
Valid Code 10 Driver’s License
Basic Rigging Skill
Gas Testing Certificate
Flameproof Certificate
• Good communication skills
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
5 years of trade experience as a Diesel Mech trade on a coal mine
• Experience in fault finding and hydraulics.
Knowledge of Mechanical on diesel machines, Tractor, LHD, Dyna, LDVs, etc.
Experience in Risk Management System be advantageous.
• Suitable experience in Work Management Systems eg. JDE, SAP etc.
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
• Able to manage in-section consumables, tools etc
• Effective Coal Mining operations, meeting production targets, planning, organising, leading the team.
Maintaining discipline in area of responsibility
Training and Coaching team members.
Effective self and team supervision and control in alignment with company values and leadership
initiatives
