Job Overview
The General Worker will assist the Maintenance and Directional Drilling Teams by providing effective equipment maintenance, welding, fitting, and electrical support. The role requires adherence to safety procedures and aims to ensure the reliability and sustainability of equipment and operations.
Key Responsibilities
As a General Worker, your duties will include:
- Welding mining equipment using flux core and other welding methods.
- Operating welding equipment and performing oxy-fuel gas cutting while adhering to safety protocols.
- Assisting with the operation of overhead cranes and lifting equipment.
- Performing visual inspections of the work environment to ensure safety standards are met.
- Supporting artisans in day-to-day maintenance and repair tasks.
- Identifying abnormal conditions and reporting them promptly.
- Participating in daily team meetings to align on work assignments.
- Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Codes of Practice (COPs).
- Maintaining high housekeeping standards and contributing to cost-saving initiatives.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Grade 12/N3/NCV Level 4 or equivalent (Maths & Science advantageous).
- Valid Driver’s Licence (minimum Code 08).
- Ability to obtain a Medical Fitness Certificate.
- First Aid Certificate (optional but preferred).
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
- Minimum 12 months welding experience.
- Proficiency with angle grinders and cutting torches.
- Familiarity with underground machinery such as shuttle cars, roof bolters, crushers, and feeder breakers.
- 12 months plant experience (advantageous).
- Knowledge of MIG welding equipment (preferred).
Technical Competencies:
- Understanding of Safety Procedures and Mine Health and Safety Act.
- Familiarity with SOPs, COPs, and OSHA regulations.
- Ability to interpret work instructions and written information effectively.
