Job Overview:
The Mortuary Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the funeral home’s operations by assisting with the preparation, care, and storage of deceased individuals. This position requires attention to detail, respect for the deceased, and a compassionate approach to supporting grieving families. You will work closely with funeral directors, embalmers, and other staff members to ensure that the highest standards of care and dignity are maintained at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deceased Care: Assist in the respectful handling and preparation of the deceased for burial, cremation, or viewing. This includes cleaning, dressing, and positioning the body as necessary.
- Transport Services: Help transport deceased individuals from homes, hospitals, or other locations to the funeral home with dignity and respect.
- Facility Maintenance: Ensure that the mortuary and preparation areas are kept clean, organized, and properly sanitized in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Record Keeping: Accurately document the details of deceased individuals, including identification information and preparation activities.
- Assisting with Embalming: Provide assistance to licensed embalmers during the embalming process as directed.
- Family Support: Provide assistance to grieving families by answering questions and offering support when necessary (within the scope of the position).
- Inventory Management: Assist with the management of mortuary supplies and equipment, ensuring that everything is stocked and in good condition.
- Other duties as assigned: Perform any additional tasks as directed by the funeral director or manager to ensure smooth operations.
