Job Overview:

Mpact, a leading packaging solutions provider, is looking for three motivated and skilled Assistant Fitters to join our team. The ideal candidates will play a crucial role in supporting the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment in our manufacturing facility. As an Assistant Fitter, you will assist the Fitter team in maintaining the smooth operation of machinery, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Maintenance: Assist the Fitter team in performing regular maintenance and repairs on production machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshooting: Support the identification and resolution of mechanical faults and breakdowns in a timely and efficient manner to minimize downtime.
  • Installation Support: Assist in the installation, alignment, and commissioning of new machinery or equipment within the production line.
  • Parts Replacement: Help with replacing worn or faulty parts, such as bearings, belts, and gears, as per maintenance schedules or when required.
  • Cleaning and Lubrication: Assist in cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting equipment to prevent wear and tear and prolong the life of machines.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Assist in maintaining accurate records of maintenance work, repairs, and parts inventory.
  • Workplace Safety: Adhere to safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and your team members at all times.
  • Collaborative Support: Work closely with the Maintenance Manager, Fitters, and other team members to ensure that production goals are met and machines are running smoothly.
  • Stock Management: Assist with managing spare parts and ensuring that all tools and equipment are available and ready for use when required.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Knowledge: Basic understanding of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and assist with finding efficient solutions.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and working in various conditions.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to identify potential issues before they lead to breakdowns, ensuring smooth machine operation.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, communicating clearly and collaborating with colleagues to meet goals.
  • Commitment to Safety: Understanding and adherence to safety protocols and procedures in a manufacturing environment.
  • Adaptability: Ability to learn quickly and adapt to the evolving needs of the production facility.

Education & Experience:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
  • Technical or Trade qualification (e.g., Fitter, Mechanical Engineering, or related field) is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or mechanical maintenance environment is an advantage but not required.
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills in industrial maintenance.
