Position Overview

The Artisan Aide – Diesel Mechanic Assistant will support the diesel mechanic team in maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting diesel-powered machinery and vehicles within the organization. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience, contributing to the efficient operation of the fleet, heavy-duty machinery, and equipment. The role requires a willingness to learn, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with Maintenance and Repairs:
  Aid the diesel mechanics in performing routine maintenance on diesel engines, vehicles, and machinery, including oil changes, filter replacements, and brake inspections.
• Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
  Help diagnose mechanical issues under the guidance of a qualified diesel mechanic. Participate in the repair of engines, transmissions, and exhaust systems, ensuring proper functionality.
• Parts Handling:
  Assist in the inventory management of parts and tools required for repairs. Ensure that parts are available and properly organized for quick access during repairs.
• Tool and Equipment Maintenance:
  Maintain and care for tools and equipment, ensuring they are clean, in good working condition, and ready for use at all times.
• Workplace Safety:
  Follow all health and safety regulations in the workshop and on-site. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Documentation:
  Assist in maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used. Ensure documentation is up to date for auditing and compliance purposes.
• Learning and Development:
  Participate in training programs to improve technical skills and knowledge. Work alongside experienced diesel mechanics to develop a deeper understanding of engine systems and repair techniques

Minimum Requirements:

Grade 12 or N2 certificate

Technical certifications or courses in relevant fields (e.g., mechanical or electrical)

Minimum of 12 months’ working as an assistant in a surface mine with yellow machines
