Job Description: ADT Operator
Overview:
An ADT (Articulated Dump Truck) Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating an articulated dump truck on construction, mining, or roadwork projects. ADT Operators are crucial to moving materials like dirt, gravel, rocks, and other heavy substances across job sites. They ensure that the truck is loaded, driven, and unloaded according to safety regulations while adhering to environmental guidelines and project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operating Articulated Dump Trucks:
- Safely operate and maneuver the ADT to transport materials between work sites, construction zones, and material storage areas.
- Ensure the truck is loaded appropriately and drive it with a focus on minimizing wear and tear on the equipment.
- Transport materials in a manner that adheres to weight limits and project requirements.
- Equipment Maintenance and Inspections:
- Conduct daily pre-operation checks, ensuring that the truck is in optimal working condition. This includes checking fluid levels, tire pressure, brakes, and other critical components.
- Report any mechanical issues or damage to supervisors and assist with minor repairs or adjustments when necessary.
- Keep the equipment clean and free from hazardous debris to ensure smooth operation.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols, including wearing the required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to safety signage and instructions.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations regarding the operation of heavy machinery.
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to the development of a safe working environment.
- Communication and Teamwork:
- Work closely with site supervisors, construction workers, and other machinery operators to ensure the efficient flow of materials on the site.
- Communicate clearly regarding any concerns or potential hazards to ensure smooth coordination on the job site.
- Report any delays or issues that may impact the progress of work to supervisors in a timely manner.
- Environmental Awareness:
- Follow environmental protocols to prevent spills, contamination, or other damage to the environment.
- Ensure that materials are transported and disposed of according to environmental safety standards.
- Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of truck operation, including hours worked, loads transported, and maintenance activities.
- Submit daily logs to site supervisors and assist in managing equipment usage and maintenance schedules
Minimum Qualifications / Experience
- Grade 12 certificate
- Valid driver’s license
- Valid ADT operator’s license
- Be literate and functionally numerate
- 3-5 years experience as an ADT Operator
- General mechanical knowledge of heavy machinery
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the mining environment
- Ability to work under pressure and meet targets
Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):
- Safely Operate an ADT machine to Load / move materials as instructed
- Perform required inspection and basic maintenance of ADT to ensure safe operating condition of the ADT
- Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
- Maintain accurate records of ADT activities and report any safety concerns or equipment issues
- Prepare accesses, work areas and surfaces
- Remain vigilant to avoid potential safety hazards when operating the machine
- Keep the machine clean and fill up with fuel and grease as required
- General work on site when required (none operating)
