A Forecourt Attendant plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of a fuel station or service station. As the first point of contact for customers, they provide essential services, maintain cleanliness, and contribute to the overall safety of the site. This position requires a blend of customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage various tasks simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service:
- Greet customers warmly and assist with fueling, vehicle checks, and any other service requests.
- Ensure customers are aware of available products and services, including car washes, lubricants, and convenience store items.
- Handle customer queries and complaints with professionalism, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Fueling and Pump Maintenance:
- Safely operate fuel pumps and assist customers in fueling their vehicles.
- Regularly monitor fuel levels and ensure pumps are functioning properly.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations while operating fuel equipment.
- Site Cleanliness and Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean and tidy forecourt, including sweeping and ensuring that all areas are free from hazards.
- Monitor and keep the area free of litter, spills, and debris.
- Ensure that the fueling area is safe and clearly marked, particularly with signage about safety and operational procedures.
- Cash Handling and Transactions:
- Process payments accurately, whether cash, credit, or debit transactions.
- Provide receipts and ensure accurate billing, including monitoring fuel prices and product costs.
- Handle cash registers and provide change to customers when necessary.
- Stock Management:
- Assist in stocking convenience store shelves, monitoring product levels, and ordering supplies as needed.
- Ensure products are displayed neatly and appropriately in the retail area.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols for fueling, handling hazardous materials, and using equipment.
- Report any maintenance issues, hazardous conditions, or accidents to management immediately.
- Stay updated on safety standards and regulations, ensuring compliance at all times.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Daily fuel servicing and balancing
• Stock Control
• Neetness of the forecourt
• Client Services
• General administration
The incumbent should therefor meet the following requirements:
• Grade 12
• Strong client service driven
Desirable Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous.
- A basic understanding of fuel systems and safety procedures.
- First Aid certification is a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Forecourt Attendants often work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- The role requires working outdoors and may involve exposure to various weather conditions.
- Physical activity, such as lifting, bending, and standing for long periods, is expected.
