Mertech Marine: Engineering Apprenticeship

Introduction

Mertech Marine is offering apprenticeship opportunitities within the following trades:
– Electrician
– Metal Machinist
– Fitter & Turner

We specialise in the dismantling and recycling of redundant submarine telecommunication cables and are committed to sustainable recycling. The aim of the business is to minimise waste and to process quality by-products.

The purpose of the program is to provide the opportunity for candidates to acquire skills and obtain a
trade test qualification.

Duties & Responsibilities

Acquire knowledge and skills related to the applicable trade
– Participate in the formal training plan for the apprenticeship program
and make reasonable progress to achieve the competencies in this
regard

– Perform duties as required and make reasonable progress to achieve
the competencies in the training plan

– Ensure the training record (logbook) is kept up to date and available

– Work effectively with others to successfully complete maintenance
activities and objectives.

– Assist Electricians in carrying out preventative maintenance activities
and assist with breakdowns

– Efficient use of power tools & Hand Tools

 

Desired Experience & Qualification

Candidates to be between the ages of 18 and 28 and meet the following requirements:

– Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science or N3

– Driver’s license will be beneficial

– Basic Hand and Power tool skills will be beneficial

– Ability to communicate fluently in English

– Strong problem-solving abilities
