Department of Tourism Bursaries 2025

Department of Tourism invites students to apply for their bursary program for the 2025 academic year.

The Department of Tourism Bursary Programme offers financial support for South African students pursuing studies in various fields at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. The bursary covers studies in the following fields:

Fields of Study:

  • Development Studies
  • Digital Technologies
  • Economics
  • Graphic Design
  • International Relations
  • Migration Studies
  • Policy Development
  • Risk Management / Ethics Integrity / Business Community Management
  • Social Science
  • Tourism Development
  • Tourism Marketing

Bursary Details:

  • The bursary covers students for the remainder of their studies and is renewable annually based on satisfactory academic performance.
  • Students will need to enter into a contractual agreement with the Department of Tourism.
  • Successful candidates will be contacted. If you do not receive feedback, consider your application unsuccessful.

Eligibility Requirements:

To apply for the bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. South African citizen.
  2. Must have completed Matric.
  3. Must be studying full-time towards an Undergraduate or Postgraduate qualification in one of the listed fields.
  4. Must be studying at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa.
  5. Must NOT be employed by the Department of Tourism.

How to Apply:

  1. Download and complete the Department of Tourism Bursary Application Form here.
  2. Alternatively, hard copy application forms can be collected from the reception of the Department of Tourism.

Required Documents:

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation:

  1. Certified copy of your ID.
  2. Certified copy of your Matric certificate.
  3. Certified copy of your most recent academic records/transcripts.
  4. Certified copy of proof of registration at a tertiary institution.
  5. Proof of household income (latest payslips, affidavit if unemployed, or proof of SASSA grant/pension if applicable).
  6. Motivational letter explaining your interest in the bursary.
  7. Research proposal for Honours and Masters students.
